BOOK LAUNCH /FUNDRAISER FOR THE SIMSTEIN FUND
Book Launch Gala for A Lake of Light and Clouds (Press 53) by award-winning author Terri Kirby Erickson, with 10% of book sales going to the Simstein Memorial Fund
Clemmons, NC – On Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Historic Broyhill in Clemmons, (3540 Clemmons Rd.), award-winning poet Terri Kirby Erickson is partnering with the Novant Health Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center Simstein Memorial Fund for cancer patients in financial distress, to celebrate the publication of her fourth collection of poetry, A Lake of Light and Clouds (Press 53).
10% of book sales for the evening will be donated to the Simstein Fund. Erickson’s uncle and special guest, famed NC artist Stephen White (whose work has appeared in MoMA), will be there along with the stunning painting he created for the book cover. If the painting sells during the Gala, he will donate 10% of the sale price to the Simstein Fund.
Other special guests include musicians Lee & Susan Terry, singer songwriters who formed their acoustic duo several years ago after collaborating since 1997. They perform a rural, yet sophisticated mix of soulful, intelligent “front porch” acoustic music that utilizes touches of Celtic, experimental melodic rock, and Americana.
Refreshments will be served, and there is ample parking at the lovely Historic Broyhill, which was built in 1925. This newly renovated historic events center is both elegant and spacious, featuring 1920’s décor, high ceilings, and beautiful chandeliers.
Terri Kirby Erickson has won many awards for her work, including a Nautilus Silver Award for Poetry and a Gold Medal for Poetry in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and she was an International Book Awards Finalist for Poetry. Her work has been published in the 2013 Poet’s Market, Ted Kooser’s American Life in Poetry, The Christian Science Monitor, storySouth, North Carolina Literary Review and many others.
People who wrote blurbs for the cover of A Lake of Light and Clouds include Peter Tork of blues band Shoe Suede Blues, formerly of the Monkees; #1 NY Times Bestselling author Jill Conner Browne; poet and educator Dr. Felicia Mitchell; and composer and Vice President of Education at the New York Philharmonic, Theodore Wiprud. Beloved syndicated columnist Sharon Randall, wrote the wonderful epigraph.
